Health and Safety Coordinator

Job Description



Reporting to the HSE Manager, the Construction Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for providing health and safety direction, support, and leadership to project supervisors, employees, and contractors. The successful candidate will support all management in implementing, monitoring and improving the Project Safety Plan and Construction Safety Management System, as well as assist project management in directing contractors, visitors, and employees on project safety standards.


Provide training support for assigned program areas, including new hire inductionParticipate in&/or provide direction to others conducting incident investigations, including follow up actions to ensure implementation of identified corrective actions Guide Joint Health and Safety Committees on safety related matters Work with client representatives and Ministry of Labour to resolve identified issues and opportunities Consolidate safety reports for Project Director signoff Participate in the tunnel rescue program Conduct project level inspections and audits as required by safety program Monitor air quality, calibrate equipment, analyze results, and require appropriate actions to mitigate where required Monitor, coordinate, and implement occupational safety and health programs

Skills and Experience

Three to Five years of relevant experience in a safety role, preferably as a representative of the Prime Contractor/ Constructor Tunnel, shaft, caissons and cofferdam experience or related experience (e.g. mining construction) is a significant asset for this position National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Certification or equivalent certification from a recognized association or Board An Ontario valid driver’s license Current First Aid/CPR certifications, Level 1Strong working knowledge of Ontario OSHA Act and Regulations with an enhanced level of knowledge and experience of the construction requirements Confined Spaces, Shafts and TunnelsKnowledge of ISO45001 Standards including Policy, Hazard Controls, Inspections and AuditsDemonstrated knowledge and experience in air quality testing, instrumentation calibration and analysis of results Experience in tunnel rescue procedures preparation and maintenanceExperience working with Emergency First RespondersStrong written and verbal communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Proficient in Microsoft office software Working knowledge of heavy equipment and construction terms and processes Demonstrated experience in transportation, particularly mass transit systems&/or heavy civil construction, is considered a strong asset
