Established in 1987, Fidelity Investments Canada Inc. (FIC), provides Canadian investors with a full range of mutual funds, ETFs and alternative funds. Fidelity funds are available through a number of advice-based distribution channels, including financial planners, investment dealers, banks and insurance companies.
FIC manages over $168 billion (CAD) in mutual fund and institutional assets, as at December 15, 2020. This includes $41 billion in assets for institutional clients, including public and corporate-defined benefit pension plans, endowments, foundations and corporate assets on behalf of clients across Canada.
The Investment Management team focuses on research analysis and delivering strong returns, and is comprised of portfolio managers, research analysts, traders and more. FIC has more than 1000 full time employees and is headquartered in Toronto, with regional offices in Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.
Business Overview:
Corporate Accounting is responsible for delivery of core accounting, financial reporting and consolidation services, and the preparation of financial statements for the numerous domestic and international Fidelity Investments legal entities and partnerships and the communication of such information to its shareholders and partners, respectively.
The Senior Accountant will serve as part of the Toronto-based Corporate Accounting team. The position provides the opportunity to work closely with members within Corporate Accounting as well as with the Tax, Treasury and Finance Departments.
What You Will Do
The Senior Accountant will serve as part of the Toronto based Corporate Accounting team. You will report to the Manager, Corporate Accounting in Toronto. You will work closely with other Finance team members and business partners to meet the accounting and reporting requirements and are expected to develop a strong working knowledge of FIC business, products and growth strategy.
Primary Responsiblities:
Responsible for the execution of accounting functions, including but not limited to: journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis for the FIC business Take ownership over the monthly, quarterly and year-end close. Responsible for producing various financial reports for senior management Develop and implement new/enhanced systems and procedures to ensure adequate accounting and control for specific accounting functions. Take lead role in preparing schedules and documentation for annual external audits Prepare IFRS compliant financial statements and stay abreast of developments in the industry impacting financial reporting. Assist with the implementation of new accounting policies and procedures as well as administering existing policies and procedures Document all internal operating and control procedures Monitor key performance indicators and the impact of accounting issues on the business Participate in the development and completion of special and/or ad-hoc projects as assigned
What We are Looking For
Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA required) University degree with a focus on Accounting preferred Minimum of 3-5 years of experience with progressively more advanced accounting, financial analysis and operations work required

Thorough understanding of IFRS and financial statement generation including disclosures Experience in a public accounting or accounting role Experience in Financial Industry is a strong asset Hard-working, can-do attitude and the desire to succeed in a fast-paced environment Intellectual curiosity and strong problem-solving skills required Ability to work at different levels of detail and be able to concisely summarize complex issues Ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative work environment is required Proficiency in financial statement analysis Excellent analytical, organizational and critical thinking skills Willingness to learn financial systems and reporting tools (i.e., Oracle and Essbase)
