Garmin Canada has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer who has a hunger for solving real world problems in the consumer electronics space. As a member of the mechanical engineering team, you will be involved in all aspects of product design – concept sketches to mass production and beyond. You will deliver superior mechanical solutions to Garmin’s fitness and outdoor segments while productizing and maintaining new technologies for consumer products.


The Senior Mechanical Engineer on the products team will:


  • Complete complex mechanical designs for Garmin or OEM products

  • Be a master CAD user and have the ability to model highly complex parts

  • Make substantial contribution to design reviews, providing comment and suggestion on mechanical engineering designs

  • Interface with Electrical Engineers, Industrial Designers, and Process Engineers to negotiate tradeoffs between manufacturing, appearance, and performance

  • Specify test plans to validate highly complex systems

  • Mockup and test mechanical systems to verify compliance with design requirements

  • Possess knowledge of mass production part manufacturing methods (e.g. injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining processes, etc.)

  • Demonstrate knowledge of preferred part materials for part production and performance

  • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using creativity and sound problem-solving techniques

  • Mentor entry level and intermediate Mechanical Engineers, providing technical expertise and guidance

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Aerospace Engineering

  • Minimum of 5years of relevant industry experience which must include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of CAD software and the ability to model highly complex parts (Solidworks preferred)

  • Experience working within a collaborative team environment

  • Mechanical design experience in the consumer electronics field

  • Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Alberta.

  • Other desirable skills and experience include:


  • Designing parts for mass production manufacturing methods including: injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping and machining processes

  • Designing assemblies for automated and manual productino lines

  • Using Solidworks PSM to manage CAD assets

  • Managing trade-offs between manufacturing, appearance and performance

  • Making test plans for complex mechanical systems

  • Excitement to create and deliver products for cycling, running, swimming and fitness!
