Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Job Description


Our client, a leading Geotechnical consultancy is looking to add a senior level Geotechnical Engineer to their Civil team. This group works on a variety of project scopes within construction and is looking for someone with experience in deep and shallow foundations, retaining walls, shoring and slope stabilization experience within heavy infrastructure projects including transportation, pipelines and mining infrastructure. ResponsibilitiesAct as lead geotechnical engineer of record, coordinating geotechnical investigations, analyses, design and construction monitoring (CQA) for slope stabilization, foundation, and earth retention projectsLead and coordinate proposal preparation and identify new opportunitiesManage projects from initiation to completion, including proposals, budgets, and schedulesTrain and mentor junior and intermediate professional staff in the field and officeComplete regular field inspections and site visits during investigation and construction, to fulfill engineer of record responsibilitiesParticipate in coordination, training and career development of other civil geotechnical staffExperience and QualificationsBachelor of Engineering or Applied Science; civil or geological engineering with geotechnical focus10+ years of post-graduate experience in geotechnical engineeringExperience with field investigation techniques such as soil logging, SPT, and CPTRegistered as a Professional Engineer in CanadaStrong understanding of soil mechanics, fundamental knowledge of geotechnical design, slope stability, soil-structure interaction, groundwater, seepage and drainageExperience as lead geotechnical engineer, coordinating investigations, design and construction for deep and shallow foundations, such as spread footings, driven piles, drilled shafts, and micropilesExperience with earth retention, such as shoring, retaining walls, slope retention and MSE wallsStrong analytical and project management skills including excellent communication skillsValid driver’s licenseAssetsA high level of experience with current geotechnical software applications, such as SLOPE/W, CPeT-IT, SETTLE3D, UNIPILE, LPILE, PYWALL, SupportIT and GRLWEAPRelevant post-graduate degree (MSc / PhD) in civil geotechnical engineeringTraining and experience in seismic geotechnical engineeringPrior experience in consulting engineering or constructionLocation open to Offices in Western Canada as a preference, although could consider other locations for the right professional.
