The Director of Information Technology is directly responsible and accountable to the Assistant Superintendent – Inclusive Learning and Technology. Background Guided by the Division’s vision, mission, beliefs, values, and goals, the Director of Information Technology will assist the Assistant Superintendent – Inclusive Learning and Technology in fulfilling the general and specific aspects of the role description for the Superintendent as defined in the Education Act and Board policy. Role and Responsibilities The Director of Information Technology will have specific responsibilities for: Provides support for the effective use of technology to maximize innovative student learning. Supports an education-centered approach to technology, to be developed and maintained throughout the Division. 2. Technology Services Leadership Provides support on all matters related to Division technology directions. Ensures that technical support maintains a focus on service. Manages contracted and alternative technology services. Provides support to ensure that ongoing technology infrastructure facilitates student learning in an inclusive environment according to the Division goals. Keeps current with the latest technologies and support mechanisms. Monitors operation of the department and, in conjunction with Technology Services staff, makes any necessary changes that would improve and streamline the operation of the department. Works collaboratively to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of Division operations. Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Technology Services department and ensures all work is carried out in a fiscally responsible and timely fashion. Meets with sales representatives; coordinates evaluation of all new and existing equipment and supplies. Manages assigned projects for the Technology Services department. Provides technology and support for assistive technologies. Maintains the Division digital resource library. Maintains a PASl-compliant student information system. Maintains paperless meeting software. Supports printer and multifunctional fleet. Supports school VoIP and intercom systems. Maintains the evergreening of all networks and data servers, including the provision for secure backups. 4. Human Resources Management In collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Inclusive Learning and Technology, manages Technology Services staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation and disciplinary actions. Maintains a continual dialogue with Technology Services staff to ensure that good performance is recognized and that potential problem areas are identified and resolved. In conjunction with school administrators, ensures that technology solutions, guidelines and standards are being affected. Conducts meetings and discusses with Technology Services staff any proposed changes to Board policy, administrative procedures or service delivery, or as the need arises. Supports the professional development of Division staff relative to the use of technology. Provides for the training and support of school administrators and teachers on educational or business technologies. 5. Fiscal Responsibility Develops a departmental budget within the parameters and constraints of the Division budget. Updates the Learning and Technology Plan for the Division annually, ensuring consideration of changing priorities. Administers all contracts and service agreements for Technology Services. Practices asset management for technology hardware, software and equipment. Operates in a fiscally prudent and responsible manner. 6. Policy/Administrative Procedures Recommends development and/or reviews of Board policies or administrative procedures to the Assistant Superintendent – Inclusion and Technology. Ensures application of Board policies and administrative procedures as required in the performance of duties. 7. Organizational Management Within areas of responsibility, demonstrates effective organizational skills resulting in compliance with all legal and Board mandates and timelines and adherence to Assistant Superintendent – Inclusion and Technology directives. Maintains on-call availability as required for technology system stability. Handles emergencies and deals with crisis situations in a team-oriented fashion. 8. Communications and Community Relations Takes appropriate actions to ensure open and transparent internal and external communications are developed and maintained in areas of responsibility. Ensures staff and students have a high level of satisfaction with the services provided and with the responsiveness of the Technology Services department. Liaises with Alberta Education to align Division technology plans with provincial initiatives. 9. Senior Administrative Team Relations Establishes and maintains positive, professional working relations with the Superintendent and Senior Administrative Team. Honours and facilitates the implementation of the Board’s roles and responsibilities as defined in Board policy and encourages staff to do the same. Provides information to the Assistant Superintendent – Inclusive Learning and Technology required to perform their role in an exemplary fashion. Performs tasks as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent – Inclusive Learning and Technology. Other duties as assigned. Practices leadership in a manner that is viewed positively and has the support of those with whom they works in carrying out the Assistant Superintendent – Inclusive Learning and Technology expectations. Exhibits a high level of personal, professional and organizational integrity. Qualifications ● Diploma or Degree in Information Technology; Computer Science; Electronic Engineering Technology or related field is preferred. ● Leadership Certification is an required; ● Project Management Certification is an asset; ● Extensive knowledge in PowerSchool and Power Teacher Pro; ● Experience planning and implementing budgets; ● Current Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Welfare Intervention Check. ● Willing to relocate to Hinton, Alberta ● Extensive travel within the Division is required The Division Grande Yellowhead School Division (GYPSD) stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south to Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 17 schools, 5 Learning Connection Centres, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff. Seven elected Trustees govern the Division. The Board’s three priorities are: • Teaching and Leadership Excellence • Community Engagement GYPSD schools offer a broad range of JK-12 programs. Principals focus on strong instructional leadership using generative dialogue to support teacher growth and supervision. The Division is recognized for its commitment to strong literacy/numeracy practices infused across the curriculum, inclusive education and for its innovative technology programs.
