Location of Position: Mississauga - Clarkson
The Supervisor will report to the Manager, Finance & Accounting
â¢ Supervise and manage finance designated professional accountants (i.e CPA) staff;
â¢ Lead a team to ensure the efficient and accurate financial and accounting activities including preparing reports for to the general public;
â¢ Assist in communicating with the Ontario Energy Board, Ontario Auditor General, external lawyers, external auditors, external tax advisors, IESO vendors, and the government to discuss complex financial and accounting matters;
â¢ Assist management in completing projects that deliver efficiencies, implement new IESO initiatives, and/or new tools in addition to managing daily, monthly, and annual processes;
â¢ Provide technical expertise for financial and accounting work activities including Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting (i.e GAAP), robust internal controls, and auditing expertise;
â¢ Having up to date expert technical knowledge regarding Public Sector Accounting Standards accounting, financial internal controls, taxation (HST excise, payroll), and Canadian payroll standards;
â¢ Supervise assigned staff of 5 through planning, organizing, assigning, managing detailed tasks, providing advice and direction and ensuring quality, accuracy and timeliness. Deal with routine personnel problems and initiate recommendations to management on personnel matters.
â¢ Oversee and participate in staff performance management reviews, staff hiring and rotations, staff training and development, staff career growth planning and staff routine personnel problems. Provide recommendations to management on all staff related matters.
â¢ Provide technical expertise leadership and guidance to personnel involved in and/or participating in the interpretation, administration, or application of finance and accounting services. Maintain expert knowledge of finance and accounting activities for purposes of interpreting and applying expertise recommendations to management.
â¢ Contribute to the development of training packages and documentation relating to the maintenance of records, work methods, technology, techniques, and the policies, practices, and procedures.
â¢ Oversees development of complex financial analysis including financial modelling, dispute resolution, estimates for use in public dissemination, and taxation analysis.
â¢ Negotiate, influence and collaborate with other IESO groups and external parties to reach a common understanding and agreement on important financial issues and changes to operations.
â¢ Assist, oversee, or participate in projects with the Finance group or other IESO groups as required;
â¢ Coordinates and approves the financial and management accounting transactions for the IESO Corporate facing organization.
â¢ Reviews and approves the posting of all transaction details to the general ledger including reconciliation of sub-ledgers and general ledger accounts including review and approval of account reconciliations.
â¢ Reviews and approves key month-end entries involving the balancing of retained earnings and the IESO administration fees.
â¢ Oversees the preparation and coordination of the IESO Corporate financial statements with accompanying notes for external contacts, and financial analysis and management reports to senior management for decision making.
â¢ Oversees and approves the accounting calendar and the chart of accounts.
â¢ Co-ordinates year-end closing and work with external auditors for IESO Corporate.
â¢ Meet government directives by reviewing and approving Other Government Organization (OGO) forms and other requests as they arise.
â¢ Review and approve accuracy and integrity of Capital Assets (including depreciation). This will involve interfacing with the Project Management Office staff to ensure compliance with the IESOâs Capitalization Policy.
â¢ Review and approve the monthly Global Adjustment Mechanism (GAM) submission including analysis of Generator payments, Funds & Conservation expenditures, Liquidated Damages & Interest Costs and all related journal entries.
â¢ Review and approve all accounts receivable duties including Program and Connection Assessment Invoicing.
â¢ Accurate and timely payroll deposit delivery, payroll accounting, and submissions of payroll source deductions;
â¢ Perform other duties as may be required and participate on special projects
â¢ Provide backup to the Manager, Finance & Accounting as may be required.
â¢ Requires collaborating with other departments and Corporate finance personnel to discuss means of obtaining information, resolving issues and developing new practices and recommending changes to interdependent systems. Issues could often become contentious as many changes might affect other department's procedures and necessitate system changes.
â¢ Requires sophisticated interpersonal skills especially in the areas of negotiating and problem solving.
â¢ Requires answering detailed sensitive and often controversial questions from external contacts such as, external auditors, OEB and Auditor General.
â¢ Requires cooperating with various external organizations the nature of which is to achieve mutual understanding or agreement to solve problems.
â¢ 4 year University Degree in a business discipline such as Commerce or Economics.
â¢ Requires a CPA designation with comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles; financial and management accounting, reporting and analytical techniques; related mathematics; financial accounting systems and prepare financial statements for senior management and external agencies.
â¢ 8-10 years professional work experience in financial and management accounting.
â¢ Experience in leading teams and supervisory skills, in particular experience related to ensuring quality of work and workflow.
â¢ Requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written to serve the reporting and presentation interests of the position.
â¢ Requires a background in payroll, financial accounting and reporting with preference of experience in the energy industry.
â¢ Requires significant computer-based experience in the development of financial accounting and reporting-systems, their operation and maintenance.
â¢ Requires experience in developing new accounting processes to meet changing reporting needs and taking action to detect and resolve problems as they arise.
â¢ Requires excellent interpersonal skills to work with internal departments and external agencies in resolving issues and answering important questions.
