iA Financial Group is looking for a strategic leader to join our close-knit Special Markets (SM) Division as a Manager, Group Underwriting and Contract Administration. In this role you will lead the Group Underwriting and Contract Administration team and play a crucial role in mentoring and developing them.
What will I be Doing?
Leadership Delegate, coordinate and supervise all team responsibilities ensuring accurate, efficient handling of all tasks within the required deadlines Monitor and adjust the workflow of the team, assessing priorities and workloads to ensure sufficient resources are available, and service standards are met on a consistent basis. Conduct staff performance appraisals and set objectives to develop team members as required. You will also play a crucial role on the Leadership Team for the iA Special Markets division. You will participate in the crafting of the annual goals for the division, within the context of the division’s overall strategic direction, and participates in the delivery of these goals.
Proposals Review pertinent information about groups to give guidance to team on suitability/appropriateness of a group based on product features, rates, marketing plans and administration requirements. Collaborate with all other iA Special Markets teams on complex client inquiries, complex claims issues and complex admin issues.
New Business Implementation Oversee the new business implementation process completeness, accuracy and timeline of the system set-up is crucial in ensuring billings, reinsurance and commission calculations follow group policyholders’ timelines
Renewals Ensure appropriate, justified business decisions are made for new and renewing business prospects with over $200M in annual premium Oversee renewal evaluations and make decisions about whether rates can be increased, held, or reduced based on premiums and claims history
Contract Administration Responsible for collaborating in the development and maintenance of group policy contract templates for all HQ-administered business, incorporating product specific features and administration arrangements, while adhering to industry guidelines and legislation, and company/legally approved model contract formats
Compliance and TPA Oversight Review all the team’s processes and evaluate the Inherent Risk and Residual Risk and create an action plan to address any areas of concern. The Manager must ensure guidelines set out by the Canadian Life & Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) are followed. Oversight of all Third Party Administrators (TPAs) relating to functional areas such as marketing, underwriting, administration, billing, premium collection and claims administration.Responsible for creating an audit process and schedule for all TPAs based on the materiality and areas of responsibility to ensure compliance to the terms outlined in the TPA agreement and contract.
Marketing Support Review and ensure that all marketing material complies with policy-specific contract provisions, administration and underwriting requirements, company guidelines and applicable legislation.
What are we looking for? University degree PLUS five to seven years of Group Insurance work experience. In the absence of a university degree, eight to nine years of Group Insurance work experience A minimum of three to four years’ Supervisory experience Ability to multi task and manage a high volume of complex, diverse functions Ability to work well under pressure and manage stakeholder expectations Ability to think strategically as part of a larger leadership team Strong interpersonal and coaching skills Knowledge of industry guidelines and legal requirements and restrictions governing Group benefits Knowledge of Group Insurance terminology, benefits and contract provisions
What would be a nice to have? FLMI designation from LOMA Knowledge of iA Special Markets administration procedures, products and contractual requirements Bilingual in English and French
