Accounting Policy 

Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Calgary office is recruiting for a Specialist, Technical Accounting to join the team. This position reports to the Manager, Accounting Policy in the Accounting Services Unit (ASU), part of Pembina’s Financial Services Division. The Specialist, Technical Accounting will work with a team of professionals to develop, implement and maintain new and existing accounting policies, support major transactions and ensure new contracts are accurately and completely accounted for. 

Summary of Responsibilities 

-Accounting standard implementation – review new/amended IFRS and US GAAP standards, quantify impact on financial statements and disclosures, assess impact on other areas of the organization, work with the business to adapt processes to meet new requirements and revise accounting policies accordingly;
-Contract Analysis – work with business unit accounting teams, business development, finance and legal department to review contracts and assess appropriate accounting treatment under IFRS and US GAAP;
-Accounting Policies – ensure accounting policies are updated on a regular basis, that they are relevant to the business, and that sufficient policies are in place to provide guidance and support to Pembina’s business unit accounting teams;
-Research and write technical accounting interpretations for complex or unusual transactions;
-Review and assess differences in accounting policies in the event of acquisitions;
-Develop relationships with, and support business unit accounting teams with technical accounting interpretations as required;
-Liaise with financial reporting, investor relations, tax and other departments throughout the organization to ensure implications of accounting interpretations are understood;
-Train individuals throughout the organization on technical accounting issues as required;
-Contribute to a team environment that values inclusion & diversity; and
-Assist corporate or business unit accounting groups with analysis and special projects as assigned.


-Designated accountant with 7+ years post-designation experience in financial reporting and/or technical accounting;
-Strong financial reporting and technical accounting skills, with experience in IFRS and US GAAP accounting interpretation and analysis. Proficiency with IFRS 15, IFRS 16 and IFRS 9 considered a strong asset;
-Advanced Excel skills, and experience with other MS Office tools and SAP; 
-Experience in the Midstream Energy Industry would be considered an asset;
-Effective verbal and written communication skills;
-Ability to build strong relationships across business units and departments;
-Attention to detail and excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills;
-Results-oriented with strong organizational skills and proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced team environment;
-Energetic, positive and self-motivated; and
-Growth mindset, integrity and a strong work ethic.
