The Position:



Are you a professional accountant who loves the hands-on technical aspects of accounting but looking to take that next step into a leadership role? Look no further! Absorb Software is currently hiring a Team Lead, Revenue Accounting to join us.



As the successful candidate, with the help of your team, you will own, improve and revamp Absorbs revenue accounting and billing management processes. This isnt your run of the mill accounting job it's complex, full of projects and no day is ever the same.



Technically astute with a high degree of flexibility, you understand our business and our varying billing models. You have a keen eye for details and can identify those little errors. You are a natural problem solver and adept at working within systems and processes to identify solutions and create efficiencies. Did we mention your excel skills are top-notch?



Working closely with stakeholders within our business units, you are service-minded and can easily explain complex accounting concepts in a matter all audiences can grasp.



As a working Team Lead, there is no challenge too big or small that you arent ready to get into the trenches (aka filing system) to solve. You can do the research, pull the history, and present the solution. These sorts of challenges are what you love, they build you up and feed yours and your teams growth!



Key Responsibilities:



Accurate revenue recognition, in compliance with US GAAP

Review complex revenue contracts and determine the appropriate accounting treatment

Oversee the monthly close process over revenue accounting

Ensure accuracy and completeness over revenue accounting reports and analysis to support the accounting period closes

Manage a multi-entity, multi-currency environment

Implement processes to manage and recognize revenue from contracts with revenue partners, including reconciling, reviewing and recording amounts payable to or receivable from those partners

Identify, design and propose ways to make the revenue accounting process more efficient

Develop and maintain internal controls over revenue accounting operations

Serve as a key technical resource/expert over US GAAP revenue accounting

Maintain appropriate documentation for all revenue recognition policies and standard operating procedures

Support the Billing Operations Team

Provide active direction of team members career development

Leads the day-to-day operations of the revenue team, supports the performance management process, and provides ongoing direction and support (through ongoing performance meetings, goal setting, and 1:1's)

Supports the team growth by strategically participating in the recruitment and training of new team members

Facilitate revenue recognition discussions with external auditors and ensure proper sign-off of US GAAP application

Manage Sales Tax registrations, reconciliations, and tax filings (multiple jurisdictions)

Serve as Project Lead for revenue integration for M&A transactions as applicable

Serve as project-lead on revenue projects, as needed

Ad hoc duties as required.

Experience in the following areas would be an asset:



US GAAP Experience, particularly over revenue accounting.

A deep understanding of revenue accounting in a software-based company preferable

Sales Tax experience (US, Canada, and Europe)

Ability to work independently or collaboratively on complex projects

A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Excellent time management and organizational skills

Ability to effectively operate in a fast-paced team environment

Demonstrates creativity and ability to rely on experience and knowledge to make decisions confidently

Key Requirements:


Minimum Requirements



Post-Secondary education in Accounting or related field

Canadian or US accounting designation

5+ years of related experience

Exceptional customer service skills

NetSuite, Zuora, and Avalara experience would be an asset

Advanced Microsoft Office skills Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
