Reporting to the Director, Corporate Accounting, the Senior Manager of Corporate Accounting provides leadership and direction to the Corporate Accounting team and is responsible for the successful completion of month end accounting and reporting. This requires an ability to lead and supervise a team, superior business partnership skills, technical accounting knowledge, analytical strength and attention to detail, and the ability to meet challenging deadlines.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Financial Accounting and reporting:
Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to a small team of corporate accountants. Manage and oversee all corporate accounting functions including daily and month end activities. Lead the debt portfolio accounting and reporting activities. Proactively monitor and review debt covenant calculations and reporting. Perform analysis and determine appropriate accounting for complex transactions. Ensure all financial accounting for both corporate and operations items comply with Corporate accounting policies and drive the development of policies and procedures as needed.

Lead the budgeting and forecasting activities of the Corporate Accounting team and provide support to other departments. Lead the preparation of consolidated financial statements for the Trust and its subsidiaries and participate in the preparation of Quarterly and Annual Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A). Develop and monitor team and individual performance goals and process improvement opportunities. Primary liaison with external auditors.

Other projects and ad-hoc activities as required. The ideal candidate will possess: 10 years of progressive corporate accounting experience, including management of a team, preferably in the seniors housing, real estate, hospitality, and/or health care sectors, with Canadian public companies. Advanced knowledge of financial reporting and accounting and experienced in resolving complex accounting issues. Experience using accounting systems, specifically Yardi and Oracle Hyperion HFM.

A post-secondary degree from a recognized institution in the field of accounting, finance, or business administration. A professional designation in the field of accounting (CPA). Strong people management skills including coaching, mentoring and motivating a team. Strong financial and analytical skills, as well as demonstrate high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, at all levels of the organization.

Excel proficiency is mandatory. Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is required. Easily adapts to changes, delays, or unexpected events in the work environment.

Able to work and solve problems independently. The ability to organize and prioritize work to meet defined deadlines in a large fast-paced work environment.
